HD 2D games

Looking for HD 2D games, with high-res, hand-drawn sprites that have a ton of animation. Things like: Streets of Rage 4 Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap Hollow Knight Cuphead What are some other games in this "style?" EDIT: Why would you downvote someone looking for GAME suggestions in the GAMING subreddit?

Ghost of Tsushima (spoilers)

So I was upset when the first horse died and didn’t like the one you got immediately after and even called it mangy horse, like c’mon mangy horse we gotta go this way. Then when I finally got to pick a new horse I picked the beautiful grey one and then instantly regretted it. Sora is beautiful but I wished I had picked Mangy Horse instead and gave him a proper name. I didn’t realize how much he’d grown on me till it was too late.

Why do people replay single players games they've already played before?

I'm talking about those that play the same games 2 or more times. You already know how the game plays and you know how the story goes. Wouldn't you rather spend that time playing a new game? I've only got so much time to play and a I have huge backlog. I never found myself picking an game I've played already over a new one. I'd like to know your thoughts.

Introducing my 5yo son to gaming with Outer Wilds

Walking around the first village is a great, low pressure introduction to the controller and he loves playing hide and seek with the kids. Within a day he was learning to fly the space ship and it blew his mind when he landed on the Tornado planet (he loves tornados). Now he's teaching his 3yo sister the controls and showing her all around the village, introducing her to all the aliens.

The Bank Of Pain In The Ass Collectables.

https://preview.redd.it/oif9dvc8l84c1.png?width=5150&format=png&auto=webp&s=075ac21b346bfa7e1b0bea5a4b0a2776a86f7f79 I actually started drawing this for my son, he loves Payday 2. It was originally just going to be Sonic wearing the Hoxton/Houston mask. As that's my son's favorite mask and Sonic is his other favorite video game. But we kept having more and more ideas so the drawing got out of hand. So I ended up drawing an entire heist scenario, where platformer characters are just resorting to breaking into a bank vault rather than going out and collecting things in the games.

Warhammer related questions. (lore, learning, gaming).

I stumbled upon warhammer a while back, and i found it facinating. As a person thats always found the darker twisted sides of the human condition utterly spellbinding, especially when you bring in religions, "sins" and survival mentally and so on. This was Just like hitting Gold. What are some books, games and other things i should look into if i wanna run full speed at warhammer universe, and soak up as much as i can of it? There probably is better forums to ask this, but i dont know any. So.... Figured id ask here!

New age games are just terrible these days...

Let me preface that I've been gaming since I was 10, own a PS5 and had an Xbox Series X both at one point (and played Game Pass) But man... after spending the summer going to garage sales, finding older / retro games for PS2, GameCube, SNES I've realized that games are not any better than they are these days, or not even near the amount of originality that came with said games. I've played some great games like Ghost of Tsushima, the Tomb Raider Reboot on PS4 and loved those, looking into the future of games I'd want to get on PS5 and the list seems rather small, maybe I've consider GTA 6 and the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, but really that's about it -- and I usually try new things but haven't found a modern day game on the PS5 that really hooks me in. I find myself going back playing Donkey Kong Country on SNES, Tetris on GameBoy, or even having a blast playing Mortal Kombat Trilogy on PS1 -- games like those while tied in nostalgia just seem to have been made better -- I just don't know what changed. I've also been collecting older video game magazines like GamePro and EGM -- and it shows so much excitement around video games. My question is too, is it because rental stores disappeared and now we're stuck with a 50-70 dollar game (refund if we can, sometimes not always the case) -- did developers get lazy? Small studios bought out by big companies? What about exclusives being faded out, or everything being ported over to every system?

Physical vs. Digital

I wanted to hear the thoughts of people on this considering the news of Sony showing recently that stuff which you’ve bought online can be taken away at anytime. Which we’ve known for a while at this point tbh. I also feel like the potential solution is to make digital as reliable as physical as in it can’t be “taken” away from you somehow. An idea being something like if you buy a game on the PS5 if somewhere down the line you’re not able to download that you’re able to access it in another way. Because if buying isn’t owning piracy isn’t stealing in my opinion and that’s the only solution right now.

Will Tomb Raider return to it's original gameplay?

The reboot is a typical 3rd person shooter with platforming. Focuses mostly on combat, barely any focus on exploration. It feels like a reskin of Uncharted. Then if you play the original games or the LAU reboot, there is more focus on traversal. There is a sense of isolation where there is just Lara completely alone in this giant space. That's another thing that was lacking. Scope. You don't have these absolutely massive vistas where you can get lost in how alone you are. Are there any plans for the series to pull away from the Uncharted clones?

What are the 2D Platformers with the most beautiful backgrounds?

Title, lol. Maybe a super speficific question, but in your opinion, what are the 2D Platformers with the most beautiful backgrounds? I LOVE the ones on Shovel Knight, I was playing it and couldn't help but stop and admire them for a bit. Their use of colors and parallax is amazing, and it (maybe underrated-ly) looks amazing with the 3D effect on the 3DS. Going backwards, I think that Megaman, while at its most popular during the Megaman 2 and Megaman 3 era, really upped the quality of their backgrounds by Megaman 5 and 6, with 6 in particular having some really beautiful ones that compliment the levels perfectly and even if they are all on the same "graphical level", those later NES entries really look much better compared to the previous ones. What are your opinions?

Can you recommend me some mindfreak games?

I really love those moments when you turn a corner. But you have to double back. And somehow the path behind you has totally changed. But not like in a horror kind of way. Or you look at a picture. And walk towards it. But the picture is actually a door. And the tree turns out to be the hallway from another perspective. Stuff like superliminal or the stanley parrable. Where reality is just another obstacle to overcome. Stuff that makes you feel like you are in a dream.

EA really should consider a Syndicate (2012) remaster

While extremely linear and fairly short, this Starbreeze Studios-developed FPS was quite a looker back then ... and it played well, too. In fact, Syndicate was ahead of its time in terms of gameplay. Being able to "breach" your opponents to cause damage/modify behavior eventually became a staple of modern shooters like Rage 2 and action-RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077. Syndicate's art style, despite being 11 years old, remains current outside of the excessive bloom. It's a beautiful, beautiful game. It shouldn't be too expensive (or too much trouble) to take the PC version and make sure it runs at 4K/60 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X -- including HDR support, of course. As far as I know, EA owns the IP so remastering Syndicate should be a no-brainer. An exciting 7-hours single player campaign with fun gunplay and plenty of eye-candy -- what's not to like?

The true king Kong game we needed

Anyone remember the 2005 king Kong game? Back then it was simple you either play as Jack driscol in first person using either spears and bones, or weapons the luger, shotgun, Thompson, and a bolt action sniper, or you play as kong one of the top in the food chain second only to the vastasouras rex the gameplay was stellar and the controls were a bit wonky but it gave us a TRUE king Kong experience from open world first person shooter via dinosaurs, to third person Kong action rescuing ann or killing the bats, and Vrexes that 2005 title is the one we needed a remastered to not the new "kong skull island" it is pure nostalga to play and explore the world of skull island the levels and detail to the 2005 version was extremely well done and tended to a rare 10/10 game

Am I the only one?

Everytime I start a game that has a story or progress or something like that (and I mean not games that are easy to get into and not complicated at all like fps games but I mean something more complex) and don't play it for some time I have such a hard time to play it again. I mean an example is stardew valley or botw or even a minecraft world I started I can (these are just examples I remember off the top of my head there are more). I haven't played stardew valley in such a long time and I payed money for it and I know how amazing of a game it is but I can't get back to it becauseI feel overwhelmed or something and that I can't remember where I am or what I'm supposed to do, so I feel like just restarting but I don't really want to do that also because I have progress. Does anyone else have something similar and know how I can get myself to come back to the games that are like this?

Is the upgrade from the original Switch to the OLED worth it in my situation?

I got mine in 2017, and there are many reasons why I want to get it, on top of the obvious model upgrades. First of all, my 2017 one is quite old, the stand is broken, the micro SD slot doesn't work (meaning I'll automatically get double the storage from upgrading), all of the joycons have stick drift, and it also just 'feels' old and uncomfortable to use, all of which is due to lack of proper treatment and care, considering I share it with youngsters in my family. That brings me on to my next point, being that this means I will not only have a fresh and new switch to enjoy all the new features and feel like I did back in 2017, but it also means I will have my own switch to myself. I can link this to my PC setup, connecting both audio inputs to my headphones by turning the switch audio into a microphone that plays through my PC audio output. Overall, it'll just feel real nice to have my own switch, that I don't have to share with anyone on holidays when I don't have my PC as entertainment, and won't get worn down and ruined like my current one due to the lack of proper care. The new features, like the stand, amazing screen, battery life, and storage, along with the extra benefits I get from not having broken and old parts of a Switch\*, altogether makes this purchase seem a whole lot more beneficial than just replacing a new version of the original switch, because this is basically just like replacing a phone that has been worn down after 6 years, and I get enhanced features on top of that. The only concern that I had was that I may regret it when the Switch 2 supposedly will release next year, but then again, I don't need to buy that straight away, until a lot of the newer exclusive nintendo games rely on the Switch 2's upgraded hardware release. The only other factor stopping me from buying it was the fact that I want to upgrade my graphics card in my PC from my 2060 to a 4070, double the cost of replacing my switch with the OLED, but I figured that I should still be able to afford that PC upgrade halfway through next year, and I don't desperately need the gpu upgrade right now so I should be fine to wait until then, whereas the OLED will be more useful for me now considering I'm about to go on holiday for 3 weeks without my PC, where I will use the switch in handheld a lot more, and the oled will improve that experience.

I'm looking at buying Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and I've run into the same issue. Editions aren't explained. I'm not going to be tricked into buying artbook, soundtrack, weapon skins, player skins. So, what's in the Deluxe, Gold, and Ultimate Editions? Not a single explanation on the store page. I don't care if it's 80% off. I want more missions.
