It's the 20th anniversary of this game, though it actually ended on the 18'th. Sox were down 3-0 in ALCS, and winning this game would start a rally to climb out of the hole and win three more games to take the series, a feat that had never been done before or has been done since in the MLB.

They were supposed to fight here – https://hexbear.net/post/2673680 – but we all procrastinate sometimes. They are getting around to it this Saturday the 12th. This is for the light-heavyweight **undisputed** belt. Bivol is 23-0, Beterbiev is 20-0 They're both Russian ethnic minorities: Beterbiev is Chechen and Bivol is half-Korean-half-Rus Bivol is a brilliant boxer. In 2022, he completely outclassed Canelo Alvarez who had never lost before except to Mayweather. Betebiev is just as good, and I think it's fair to say he is the more powerful puncher. Odds are even, which is rare in boxing. The problem with boxing is you don't often get matchups as good as this.

> A player's slide to beat the throw at home plate is one of baseball's big thrills, especially during the postseason, which begins today. But of the two sliding styles — head-first and feet-first — which is faster? > > Head-first, says David A. Peters of Washington University in St. Louis, an engineer and avid baseball fan. > > The reasons that it's faster to lead off with your noggin all have to do with physics, Peters said. > > Specifically, it's a matter of the player's center of gravity (or center of mass) — essentially the point where gravity exerts its tug. For most people, their center of gravity is right around the stomach area, Peters said. > > Whenever you leave the ground, no matter which end of your body you lead with, your center of gravity will move forward with the speed (and momentum) you left the ground with, Peters explained. > > Two factors make you reach the base sooner if you dive head-first, Peters told LiveScience. One is that your arms are lighter than your legs, which means that as your body rotates, your arms are going to extend out farther than would your legs. Also, because your feet are still pushing off the ground as you dive, you can get a little extra acceleration. > > If you slide feet-first, your feet will dig into the ground instead, slowing your motion, Peters said. > > Some people prefer to slide feet-first though so that they can pop up when they reach the base and avoid sliding past it. > > Head-first slides are also more dangerous, Peters said, because players could jam their hands into the base. Until the 1960s and '70s, in fact, players tended to avoid sliding head-first into a base to protect their hands and faces. > > Players who do slide this way will often hold their batting gloves in their hands to keep themselves from extending their fingers as they slide, he explained. Just how many players favor each type of slide has never been calculated, but Peters estimates that it's about 50-50. > > https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna26975693

**tl;dr** > The Harmonica Incident took place on a New York Yankees team bus on August 20, 1964, en route to O'Hare International Airport. Infielder Phil Linz, slightly resentful at not being played during a four-game sweep by the Chicago White Sox that was believed at the time to have seriously set back the Yankees' chances at that year's American League pennant, began playing a harmonica in the back of the bus. > > Manager Yogi Berra, feeling that Linz's behavior was inappropriate given the team's recent poor performance, angrily called on him to stop, whereupon Linz threw the harmonica and loudly complained about being singled out despite not having been at fault for the losses. If you've got time to kill and/or you must know more - the full article is ~7,500 words. I'm not a sports guy so I tapped out early. I would have been willing to read up to ~1,500 words though.

North Korea triumphed after winning every single game in Colombia North Korea secured a record-equalling third victory in the Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup on Sunday, beating Japan 1-0 in Bogota. They became the joint most successful side in the football tournament's history, equalling powerhouse nations Germany and the United States. Choe Il-son's 15th minute winner capped a superb tournament for North Korea, who won every single game in Colombia. The 17-year-old forward finished as the competition's overall top scorer, winning the Golden Boot with six goals. North Korea have joined the United States and Germany as only countries to win the tournament three times "It’s so hard to express ourselves right now - this has been a dream of so many of us for so long," said North Korea's captain, Chae Un-yong. "The final match was tough, as we expected, and we had to remain calm and play according to the coach’s tactical instructions." North Korea stormed their way through the tournament, despatching the likes of Argentina, the Netherlands and Brazil en route to the semis. A 1-0 victory over the United States set up an all-Asian final against Japan - who finished as runners-up in the previous tournament in 2022. Choe's goal - a slightly deflected left foot strike - was enough to secure a historic win for North Korea in the El Camin Stadium She was named player of the match and won both the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball, the latter being awarded to the World Cup's best overall player. North Korea's Women's U20 team has previously won the World Cup in 2006 and 2016 North Korea's triumph is even more notable given the country withdrew from global sporting competition for several years due to the coronavirus pandemic. Having not played a match since 2018, the North Korean Women's U20 returned to the international stage in March this year to compete in the Asian Cup in Uzbekistan. Despite the six-year-break, they won that tournament, beating Japan 2-1 to secure their second title. “To firstly win the Asian Cup and now follow that with this success means that I’m so proud of the team," said the team coach, Ri Song-ho, following their World Cup triumph. "We have shown that we are very dangerous in the way that we build up attacks, it’s all about the speed of how we go forward." 17-year-old Choe Il-son finished as top goalscorer and was named player of the tournament Unlike their male counterparts - who are ranked 111th in the world - North Korea's women are a genuine force in world football. The senior side is currently ninth in the Fifa world rankings, higher than countries such as France and Australia. To date, they have won three Asian Cups, three Asian Games and three East Asian Championships. North Koreans rarely get to see their national sides play at home, though. The country's limited transport connections with the outside world - as well as its poor diplomatic relations with many governments - mean that the vast majority of North Korea's "home" matches are played at a neutral venue, often in China or the Middle East.

For the super-middleweight championship of the world. The fighters are expected to ringwalk at around 11:30 PM EST / 8:30 PM PST in Las Vegas, which is around 4:30 AM BST in the UK. Should be good. I think Canelo will outbox him, but Berlanga has never been beaten and is still an up-and-comer, whereas Canelo is getting long in the tooth. # Rumoured undercard Middleweight: Erislandy Lara (30-3-3) vs. Danny Garcia (37-3) Super middleweight: Caleb Plant (22-2) vs. Trevor McCumby (28-0) Super lightweight: Rolando Romero (15-2) vs. Manuel Jaimes (16-1-1) Featherweight: Stephen “Cool Boy” Fulton (21-1) Carlos Castro (30-2) Welterweight: Roiman Villa (26-2) takes on Ricardo Salas (19-2-2) Super featherweight: Jonathan Lopez (16-0) and Richard Medina (15-2)

They just beat Austria in the first knockout stage (well they're 5-2 up now with three minutes left), which puts them in a quarter-final against Brazil on Sunday – should be a great game. They won the tournament in 2006 and 2016. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_FIFA_U-20_Women%27s_World_Cup

Incredible things are happening in the "riding a board on water" segment of the action sports populace. Of course the concept of a hydrofoil board really took off after the infamous sunscreen photo: ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhexbear.net%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fe4f66f9c-312e-40a1-87ce-89d559849ff4.webp) Zuckerberg is riding a very expensive electric-powered one that has a tiny propeller on the foil, but it's also possible to go windpowered like in the top photo. Stand-up paddleboarding (aka SUP) is very popular and hydrofoil boarding is the next level. I have heard it is unbelievably difficult to ride these for longer than a single second without having your board tip dive into the water & eating shit spectacularly. It is interesting to see what tinkering people are getting up to now that lightweight and relatively cheap/energy-dense batteries + motors are readily available. Quadcopters and e-bikes are only the beginning. [Peter Sripol](https://www.youtube.com/@PeterSripol) is a pretty cool youtuber who builds lots of things in this genre, mostly model planes.
