Why are simple questions and discussions downvoted so much?

I noticed this for quite some time now: Regular discussions or simple questions just like in the last post about the difference of anarchism over libertarianism get downvoted hard but nobody gives a damn about providing some info or just explaining their point of view. I understand that people may use downvotes to show their disagreement but why don't they specify their opinion with just one simple sentence?
