The very notion that transphobia has to be a tool of the bourgeoise ( explicit othering a group to blame for the problems of another group … where have we seen this before?) is so ludicrously dumb.

Transphobia exists because human nature is to other the thing you don’t understand, human intelligence is rooted in trying to learn about the thing you don’t understand. Transphobes and most conservatives are too afraid to go from fear to understanding. It’s why their views become stronger and more extreme against their opponents views who change with knowledge.

This doesn’t have to do anything with class, it can have parallels and be exacerbated by class struggles but Jeb Goatfucker doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor if you are trans then he wants you dead.

the idea that trans is bourgeoise is because pharmaceutical companies directly benefit

sounds like quite the conspiracy theory though

So the flu is bourgeoisie [sic] because pharma makes vaccines I guess

Yeah, dude! You should see their covid takes.

Othering is othering is othering :::
All of those politicians in U.S. congress, who represent corporate interests, enacting bills that harm transgender humans? An unimportant coincidence, I presume. J.K. Rowling, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, Rupert Murdoch & alia: irrelevant, as are white moderates like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg who frequently tolerate cissexism on their platforms, and so are petty bourgeois paskudnyaks like Cathy Brennan and the majority of the alt‐right.

When you realise that transgender humans do not fit very neatly into the most marketable conception of what men and women should be, cissexism’s use to the upper classes becomes easier to understand. Employers are less likely to knowingly hire transgender humans, and violent cissexists, whether they know it or not, commit hate crimes against transgender people because they complicate the gender norms that the upper classes enforced and marketed to everybody.

Otherwise, cissexism benefits the upper classes in the same way that many other discriminatory phenomena do: culling more easily the population of unemployed adults, or the so‐called ‘useless eaters’, by concentrating violence on the most vulnerable among them: a large percentage of transgender humans are unemployed. A more obvious answer is that they are convenient scapegoats, being overwhelmingly poor and therefore handy ways to distract us from our real oppressors, but I suspect that this function is only secondary.

I suppose that it is correct that pharmaceutical companies directly benefit—or at least can benefit—from the presence of transgender people, seeing as how so many of them suffer from mental issues as a consequence of the standard conception of gender that the ruling class imposed on everybody, but that probably is not what anybody meant here. The profits that businesses can make from hormone replacement therapy and special surgical procedures should not be overestimated: even if some businesses want them, others don’t since that gives their competitors an advantage.

Simply saying that cissexism originates in ‘human nature’ is a useless proposal. I can just as easily argue that resisting cissexism comes from the same source because it pains me.

All of that being said, I knew better than to expect a meaningful analysis in a thread titled ‘Tankies turn on Lemmy developer for transphobia’… in the same subcommunity where they stickied said developer’s cissexism, no less. I could not make this crap up if I tried. Damned if we do, damned if we don’t!
