They started pushing these a few weeks ago at the NOLA store. They looked gross and much lower quality than the round ones they used to have. Thanks for the "hands on" review.

I haven't played Satisfactory (or any factory game) in MP either! Hopefully we're finding a good balance.

Feeling emboldened by what you said, I went ahead and unlocked a few additional milestones we had the resources stocked for. Area Clearing gets solid fuel and the chainsaw which both help out with power until coal is unlocked. I updated the power plant to use the new fuel.

Field Research because I just really wanted the map, haha. I built a MAM but didn't research anything. ADA's commentary for most milestones is meh but I find the research comments pretty funny and wanted to leave them for others to enjoy.

And Assembly because I really wanted to build that reinforced plate factory! We already had mark 2 belts but you need so many plates for everything! So now we've got a plate factory slowly cranking them out.

I left some extra equipment in the Hub chest, save folks the build time. There's most of tier 2 still to unlock. Lots of MAM research to do. Some iron nearby that could make a nice rotor factory. And the space elevator should be ready to build now! Make sure to clear a big spot for it!

Hello! I popped on for a few minutes today to check out the server! Looks like a good start.

I threw some extra portable miners up on the copper and limestone to the south (near the oasis) and set up a few storages and constructors to improve the power grid. Hopefully I can rejoin sometime soon when others are available.

Addition: Well I had some extra time so I played around in your (our?) world a little more. Upgraded the power plant, ran some spaghetti belts for copper and limestone to the main factory. I started on a plate factory when I realized assemblers weren't unlocked yet and I didn't want to attempt any milestones without other people on. So I gave up on that idea for now. Assuming the biofuel holds out, there ought to be enough materials to build the elevator after a little while!

Several of these irritate me but ultimately evoke a solid

But fuck me playing with the person who came up with these would test my patience.

Pizza, V? I suppose cheese and meats are optional. One can. Some do. If we get into "It has minerals in it!" then we'll have to argue about what atoms are, so fine, pass.

Guitar (!) Strings, A? I know about catgut, for violens in my mind, but let us wiki it. Huh neat, catgut is intestenal fiber from usually goat or sheep, sometimes cat-tle, but never actually cat. And, while still preferred for concert harps and classical instruments, guitars all mostly switched to steel in the 1900s (and nylon or mixed later). So when was this game printed, how old are you imagined-ghost-of-the-author?

I was trying to think on the history of this feature, since i wouldn’t necessarily count something like AvP's heatvision mode. That's meant to simulate a real thing, even if it works a bit gamey, by highlighting active objects.

Assassin's Creed is the game that, for me, codified the mechanic into it's current form. Hawk Vision or whatever they called it specifically highlighted game objects. I think they even mention that the animus machine is projecting that view to help Desmond see the world how his ancestors would have understood it.

But... I'm going to call the origin as being way farther back. In flight sims, your targeting hud can highlight enemies and targets by drawing little boxes around them. That is the very first instance I can think of where a game highlighted objects of interest for the player's benefit. Most flight sims (or adjacent genres like mech sims) would also label the box with the name of the thing, sometimes with health, ammo, weapon, or weakpoint indicators as well.

That's a cool board. I've been thinking about something in similar form factor, kind of missing old slide phones with physical keyboards. The idea of building out little mesh devices for a local emergency network is quite interesting. Maybe with a few supernode base stations built around RasPis to act as data-storage/relays/service-providers...

  • I was scouting a high place to set up a radar when I noticed this great view! Couldn't quite get everything in (there's another factory off to the left, and my main/initial layout is directly under me, as evidenced by the space elevator) but I liked how my little empire looks, pockets of industry in a wild world. I like also the evolution of my factory building as I unlocked parts and started to care more. From naked buildings on platforms at the far right (and below) to a roofless but walled factory in the distance, and then my most recent building in the mid-right distance. The only one so far with walls, floors, AND a frickin' ROOF! It's even got lights and windows! Yeah, we get a little fancy sometimes, haha. How's your factory/empire looking?

_Updates:_ _Might be best for mods to lock this post at this point (is that a thing on Lemmy?) because this story is basically wrapped. The FBI says a bullet caused some ear damage. Maybe it was bullet shrapnel from a ricochet or something like that, but later photos show the teleprompters in-tact so it wasn't shards of glass from those. Trump's usage of the bandage (and the assassination attempt) as symbols and political tools has been discussed at length and I don't think conspiratorial thinking beyond that is very productive. Pete Souza took his own account down after getting a lot of harassment, so no further conspiracies are needed regarding X-formerly-known-as-Twitter at this time._ > A photo of [Republican](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/republican) presidential candidate [Donald Trump](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/donald-trump) taken on Saturday without his ear bandage has sparked a wave of speculation. > The image, taken by Alex Brandon of the Associated Press on July 27 and shared by photojournalist Pete Souza on X, formerly [Twitter](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/twitter), shows Trump walking up an airplane staircase with an apparently fully healed ear wound just weeks after he was shot with a high-powered rifle. > Souza, known for his tenure as the chief official White House photographer for Presidents Ronald Reagan and [Barack Obama](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/barack-obama), posted Brandon's photo on his now-deactivated X account on Saturday, writing, "AP photo this morning. Look closely at his ear that was 'hit' by a bullet from an AR-15 assault rifle." > Souza's profile, @PeteSouza, which had over 200,000 followers, now reads, "This account doesn't exist, try searching for another," implying that he has deleted or deactivated it. If he had been banned, it would read, "Account suspended. X suspends accounts which violate the X rules."
