A small [#sewing](https://mastodon.social/tags/sewing) repair to this sixteen year old dog jacket will let us continue using it for just a little bit longer. [@sewing](https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing) I’m thinking about using this to make a pattern for a new jacket (with snaps instead of velcro and some other small modifications), but [@miguel\_angel](https://mastodon.social/@miguel_angel) has enough sweaters & jackets already…

Very long, tiresome day of travel to and from physiotherapy yesterday, (I travel two hours on public transit to the suburbs because it’s half price compared to downtown), but today I get to spend some time in my [#sewing](https://mastodon.social/tags/sewing) room, finally! Getting ready to go to a medical appointment soon, but when I get back this afternoon, I’m debating on what I should do first: rethread my [#overlocker](https://mastodon.social/tags/overlocker), [#cov

Once everything is all traced out, I weigh the pros and cons of different #cutting tools: #scissors/shears, manual rotary cutters, electric #fabric cutter, etc. It depends on what I’m cutting (both the fabric & the #pattern/project itself) and sometimes I end up using more than one.

This time, since it’s lots of long cuts with mostly soft curves, I opted to use my fabric cutter for everything except the front crotch curve where I used my fabric scissors. Very quick and accurate! #sewing @sewing

I decided to start with #cutting, that way I have #fabric scraps available for testing #stitches immediately after I rethread the machines.

Sometimes I take too long deciding what kind of marking tool to use (chalk, marker, soap, soapstone, chacoliner, wax, water soluble pen, heat pen, etc.) but for this project it was an easy decision: blue chaco liner (Clover) around the hard oak tag #pattern edges. #sewing @sewing

Tonight I took apart my wife’s favourite fleece pyjama pants so I can make a [#sewing](https://mastodon.social/tags/sewing) pattern (tomorrow)… they’re almost 18 years old! This is the hard/long way of replicating a [#pattern](https://mastodon.social/tags/pattern), I know, but it’s also the most accurate. Not fun when it’s exclusively overlocked/serged seams! They needed new elastic in the waistband anyways. By taking these pants apart and essentially reverse-engineering them, I noticed/learned a few tricks they employed when making them, too!
