I had the same experience with OSM maps years ago, but you've convinced me to give it another chance. I'm looking forward to seeing if it handles public transport in Vancouver as well as Google Maps does.

I'm not particularly concerned with how "the kbin user base" looks or any silly tribalism like that tbh. I'm just wondering if/why the issue might be happening. If the string doesn't appear in the git repo, that's a useful data point for sure. But plenty of people are confirming that something is going on, so the questions as to 1) what is causing it and 2) why are still out there.
A post on kbinMeta states that "Lemmy.ml is blocking all inbound ActivityPub requests from /kbin instances." More details [here](https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/104218/Lemmy-ml-is-blocking-all-requests-from-kbin-Instances#comments), but the theory is that -- rather than defederating -- lemmy.ml returns a 403 'access denied' message in response to any inbound requests from a user agent with "kbinBot" in the string. Upvotes, comments, and boosts don't seem to be going through. However, it appears that lemmy.ml still federates information outbound to kbin instances. I'm wondering if anyone here knows what is going on and why it might be happening? Federation between Lemmy instances and Kbin instances seems to be a selling point for both, so I'm sure others using both services are curious as to what's going on.

Lee's is basically the sweet spot of flavour vs affordability for me. I can't speak to Cartem's, I don't have the money to justify the cost.

Right on, all of that makes sense. The issue with #2 is that when I went to Kbin mags via Lemmy, the upper-right menu continued to give a "Subscribe" option (instead of "Unsubscribe" for my subbed Lemmy communities). But I think that might have happened when I'd visit some Lemmy subs as well. Either way, it's early days, and this is a great new Fediverse app that I plan to use a ton. Thanks again!

Solid start! Questions re subscribed communities:
- Does Connect only display 10 communities under "subscribed" in the left-hand menu? There are a LOT of subscribed communities missing from mine. (Also, I believe that only communities from my home instance are showing up, but not 100% sure of that.
- Does Connect understand subscriptions to Kbin magazines that one subscribes to thru Lemmy? I don't think it recognizes my Kbin magazine subs, but I may be wrong.
Either way, this strikes me as an improvement over Jerboa, so I will be using it. Thanks for your hard work on this!

Or -- and I hope this sinks in one day -- it could be that using terms like "delusional" and "coward" to describe people you disagree with is a great way to convince people that you're not a jerk worth engaging with. Which is why they block you. Like I am now.

If all you can do with an honest answer to your question is insult the other person for their perspective, then don't be surprised to find yourself blocked on here by a lot of folks pretty quickly.
EDIT: So I peeked into your very brief post history, and sure enough you're already complaining about people being "quick to ban or block" and "debate meeeeee." So while I know you won't accept this criticism, let me assure you that your comment above provides nothing of substance to debate. You're being blocked by people because (1) you're being rude, and (2) no one owes you their attention, much less their content.

Personally, I mostly post from CBC because I find it to be a regularly published source of reliable news. If you like others, post others and see how they're received.
A “motor vehicle incident” that occurred in Surrey Sunday morning is being investigated by the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., the police oversight agency confirmed. [Looks like an RCMP vehicle was involved in a crash, as were two sedans and a minivan.)

I don't know. There seems to be some openness on Mastodon to bots that are properly labelled as such, in my experience. I'd say open a bot account here and use it to give the crossposting a shot. Anyone who doesn't like it can easily block the bot account and move on with their day.

Gorsuch is a mixed bag at best on a lot of issues, but he has been as good as anyone could expect on Indigenous issues. Check out his concurrence in this case (starting on PDF page 43), which straightforwardly grapples with the history of forced family separations and residential schools.

For sit-down or coffee, generally 20%, as I've done for years. Not going to go up to 25%, and it'll take bad service for me to dip below 18%.
Slightly different for delivery - I'll usually do a flat $5 if they're nearby and I'm just ordering a meal for me and my partner. If we're getting a lot of food, I'll add to that.
If I order takeout food (not coffee), I don't tip at all.

I have an ebike that comes with a rear light affixed permanently to the rear of the frame. I think it would be more trouble than it's worth for a thief to steal, since it's wired to the electronic components and the connector is not situated in an obvious spot.
But I still get nervous about leaving the bike unattended for too long, lest someone get any ideas. Heck, someone actually broke into my storage locker a couple of weeks ago and just broke the affixed front light off my bike, not to steal it but just to be a dick. (They'd probably have taken the bike itself if I'd left the battery on it.) So now I use an old strap-mounted front light.
All this to say, I think the advantages of strap/clip-mounted light outweigh the advantages of an affixed one. But YMMV.

(I'm partly kidding -- there are a ton of communities I'd like to see carry over from Reddit to here, but I don't bother because I don't have bandwidth to be a mod. So I get it. But if you have time, feel free to make the communities yourself!)

Most ebikes have decently water-resistant controller housings. I'd avoid a serious downpour if possible, but it probably wouldn't be the end of the world if you get caught in one, and light rain is no problem at all.
