1.852 all the way in every single context. I will die on this hill haha

You do you, but this is a big no-no from my point of view.
For example separating the prefix m from mm would be rather confusing, and look like another unit.
You can, however, put 10^x wherever you like 👍

Can I ask why, though? I'm also an engineer and I just never spell it out, if I can avoid it (so far, luckily, haven't had push back since I'm on delivery and not proposals or anything like that.)
To me, it's just more annoying to read it as words, and no matter what you do, mistakes can still happen, including when it's spelled out.
Just my 2 cents.

Touche, yeah, I'd totally be on board if everyone just uses $3.5*10⁹ or $3.5e9. Good luck getting it catch on outside eng/science circles though haha

Oh damn, that is some nails on a chalkboard level stuff.

Mine was Pil-ates.
Hey, it's not our fault English just borrows and never adapts the spelling. Or updates spelling as pronunciations change.
English spelling is atrocious.
MisterFrog 14h ago • 100%
Yeah that's fair. I personally prefer the first one, but I can see how it makes sense to not use digits there.
+1 ∆ for you (change my view points, a thing from r/changemyview)

I'll allow billion, but personally my preference is using powers of 10 or unit prefixes.
Just I'm not gonna be mad about the newspaper writing 3.5 billion dollars.
MisterFrog 14h ago • 100%
Only if you have a unit.
273 GW 👍
Else, looks kind weird, to my eyes anyway. But fair point haha

I love the fact this proves the point, that even for emphasis (which I think the title of 1984 is fine to use), it's LESS clear to spell it out.
I am very thankful my company lets me write numbers and not spell it out.
MisterFrog 14h ago • 100%
Yeah I'm with you on this. I'm not sure if this was clear in the meme (I am an engineer), but I think the style guides can go shove it. I'm always going to write the symbols, not spell it out.
MisterFrog 14h ago • 40%
Just a small note on this, style guides have all sorts of weird rules about spelling out numbers, most of which I personally think are nonsense, hence making a meme. Not necessarily just less than 10
MisterFrog 14h ago • 100%
Even better haha, this is also my preference, but I think most audiences wouldn't like that, I assume.
Edit: 239,000,000,000 is obviously an option. But I rarely see that in a newspaper.

Hahaha, of course, it makes so much sense now

Oh that sounds neato, thanks for sharing friend

The only numbers I will ever spell are one and zero, and only when using them as a pronoun, or for emphasis, respectively. Is there ever a reason to not to use symbols when dealing with numbers? Why would "fourteen whatevers" ever be preferable to "14 whatevers". It's just so much easier to read numbers as symbols, not spelled out. (Caveat, not including multipliers, like "273 billion").

A tale as old as time, annoyingly.

Honestly I wish they'd have just had the abortion.
Asafum, I don't know you, but I am almost certain the world is a better place with you in it.
Hope you encounter a nice autumn breeze (assuming from the instance) or a nice whatever you like this week. Despite, I agree, the world being a bit of a hole in general.
Me, I've been enjoying the sun on the leaves this spring.
Kind regards, This Australian anon

Come to think of it, we have a system where we update our details and it updates it across all other government agencies (this is optional), but I don't think it automatically updates your voting registration.
Room for improvement.
Oh and yeah, fuck the queen.
Edit: yes, the queen specifically for presiding over the sacking of Whitlam

When I was around 14 I tried listening to the bible on audio book, couldn't even make it past genesis (or the one after?) because of how terrible the writing was.
Like, bible, I don't want to hear the entire fucking lineage of every single character you're introducing. Appendices would have been much appreciated.
Never tried again because I was an edgy 14 year old atheist who was only doing it to be able to "win" arguments on the topic.
Ahh to be a hormonal teenager...

Voting registration isn't anti-democratic if it's very easy, like it is here in Australia. It's done online (and other methods) and very painless. If you don't move, you never need to update your registration.
How many times do you think about the Roman Empire per day?

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing? Edit 2: I bought my Pixel 6 phone outright, directly from Google's Australian store. I have no creditors. Were the courts not enough control for creditors? Since when are they allowed to lock you out of your purchased property without a court order? I don't even live in the US, so what the actual fuck? Edit 1: You can check it's installed (~~stock~~ Pixel 6 android 14) Settings > Apps > All Apps > three dot menu, Show system > search "DeviceLockController". I highly recommend getting NetGuard, you can enable pro features via their website if you have the APK for as low as 0.10€, but donate more, because it's amazing. You can also purchase via Google Play store.
Especially when there's some mad person with a folder where they put ALL their markups, correspondence and revisions in the same folder, with no sub folders 🤢.
While you're madly running about getting the store ready and dialling in the coffee. And they're mad that you're not open before the opening time...
