In jedem Fall sehr naiv.

  • I would like to deploy my own [Omnivore](https://omnivore.app) instance on my NAS via Docker. In the [repo](https://github.com/omnivore-app/omnivore), there actually is a [Docker compose file](https://github.com/omnivore-app/omnivore/blob/main/docker-compose.yml), but unfortunately it's too complex for my current docker skills and I can't get it to run. :-( Does anybody happen to have achieved this and is willing to share their docker-compose.yml? I'd be super grateful. (PS. I've just found out that there's also a [Dockerfile and a script specifically for self-hosting](https://github.com/omnivore-app/omnivore/tree/main/self-hosting); I haven't tried this option yet.)

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Well, since it's a SHR (or RAID-1), you shouldn't have suffered date loss, right, so at least it's merely a inconvenient thing, having to replace it, not a severe problem.

Hooooly .., you are really determined and serious about disk space, huh? 🤣 That's impressive! (And expensive, I guess.) I only have about 4 TB usable space (2x 4 TB in a SHR plus hot spare plus backup disks as a RAID-0), which is plenty for what I use it for at the moment.

Personally, I didn't find the quality of Moment's object recognition convincing and eventually disabled it. So here's hoping that it might have gotten better (i.e. better trained models) over time... What bothers new more, though, is the inflexibility regarding face recognition results: last time I checked, one still could not remove false positives (i.e. incorrect tagged persons) or manually add face tags. Hopefully, this will be possible in the future.

I can only answer this regarding Windows machines, but I guess it to be similar with the Mac software: The Active Backup for Business client runs as a system service (i.e. a daemon), so the system only needs to be running; you can configure how a backup is triggered. I have it setup so that a backup happens once a day (not several times) either if the system starts, the screen gets locked or the system is idle. I can't tell when the backup is happening (there's no impact on performance and no indicator for the user), In only see it in the logs on the Diskstation. I suggest you just try it out. 🙂 And if you do, please share your results/answer here so that others in the future can benefit? Thanks.

Luckily, I have never run into anything like this, so I don't have useful ideas to offer here, unfortunately. But hopefully someone else here has a clue... What RAID setup do you use (SHR, SHR2, RAID-1, ...)?

If your model is Docker-capable, there's a whole new, exciting world waiting! :-) And the site I linked to is a very good starting point for that journey, because it has many, many easy to follow tutorials.

    RAM Upgrade on DS920+

I added another 32GB to my 923+ recently. Looking around, I found that speicher.de (German shop specializing in RAM) offers RAM for specific Diskstation models beyond Synology's specification, and they guarantee you that it's going to be working! (They call this "overRAMing"). For the DS920+, you can find the offered RAM sizes here. I have had zero problems, my NAS now has 36 GB RAM, shows no errors or warnings, and I'll probably upgrade it to overall 64 GB sometime. And my 218+ runs with 10 GB RAM since several years without any issues or warnings. Rather the opposite: in both cases, the difference was tremendous, it felt like entirely new (much faster) devices. I can highly recommend.

[Edit: I changed the German links to the corresponding ones of their English site]

Yes, it does offer importing from Trello: In a "project" (i.e. a collection of boards), after clicking the plus-button to add a new board, you can either just give it a name and create an empty board, or your can click "import from Trello". I haven't tried it, though, I'm not a Trello user (because why should I; I have Planka, haha). You can probably try out the import capability with their demo instance.

Have fun with your self-hosting adventures!

If I were to switch from Lemmy to KBin (or vice versa), would I have to start over (e.g. create a new account there and lose all my comments etc.)? Or would it be possible to “migrate”?

The closest free alternative to Trello would be Planka, IMHO. It works really well (rock stable, quick, painless), is pretty and doesn't need much resources. The only thing I miss (which Trello also lacks, btw) is the ability to have subtasks in the way Jira allows them; for this, Plane or Leantime might be good candidates (I haven't used either of them yet, though).
