Why are we building homes when so many are standing empty?

I had this issue with Reddit. You need a lot of houses, making some available doesn't fix the issue with the vast majority.

And thats fine. I'm just letting you know how I feel about this.

Banning short term rentals is one thing, but can we please at least request that hotels fill the gap that this creates?

Yes they did get a cast from other Asian countries to represent Koreans, however I think that most issues we would have were due to ham fisted producers who didn't "get it".

It improved significantly over the years, and although retrospectively it might seem racist, compared to the other shows listed it was fairly progressive.

Don't watch it now. Don't watch it as a progressive piece of programming, you will only be disappointed as its over 50 years old, and it was battling stereotypes of over half a century ago.

And yet even now its far more progressive than most Republicans.

I have two children, and the number of hotels where I can get joining rooms so I dont have to actually share with them is basically zero.

We can, but very few people own a second, let along a third or fourth.

Either they are landlords and running it through a business, and how do you prevent a business from owning two locations?

Sorry Londis, you can only have one store because you have a flat upstairs?

Or they own them privately, and in this country its massively overstated. Presumably to try and start a bit of class warfare, but folks see US news and think it applies here.

Fucking Tories, making the crabs pull everyone back into the bucket when there really aren't that many. Even Shelter doesn't call it out as a problem, compared to the many other things we could do to help.

So these could be houses that people don't actually want to live in? Maybe because work isn't there, or the cost of repair too high?

I remember some of those houses, as I was in Wavertree near the Botanic Gardens, Matalan and the burnt down pubs around 2000 and you couldn't give away some homes just a bit further down Picton.

Thats interesting, as I had a vague awareness they were making a sequel, and also only really heard more once it had hit cinemas and they were already declaring it a loss.

I don't remember seeing a lot of posts here on the run up to the release. But perhaps I just ignored it because I couldnt see how a sequel was going to do the story justice and not just be a blatant cash grab.

The vast majority of the films supposed metaphors are mostly around secret knowledge, and discovering that what they were being told was a lie to control.

It could be read as an egg moment, but from the outset many groups were claiming that it represented them and I could easily see why they would say that.

The only reason I said what I did was because so much of it is vague and anything could be read into it.

    It’s not all trans metaphors

What was actually made (as the first film) has very few trans-metaphors.

“Allegations of foul play have been received that somehow King Conker swapped his real conker for the metal one later found in his pocket.

    ...

There are also suggestions that King Conker had marked the strings of harder nuts. We can confirm he was involved in drilling and lacing the nuts before the event.

The metal conker is suspicious, however to them start going around and making other random claims makes you sound like a sore loser.

I don't read it as such, more that they were pointing out that it is a crime.

Good or bad crime is irrelevant, "arrested for not a committing a crime" is incorrect.

Both the sisters who wrote it are. However they also claimed it was a trans-metaphor quite a long time afterwards.

A lot of it doesn't make sense as a trans-metaphor, so I'm not entirely convinced of this claim. Its a great film, with some horrible sequels.

  • I was looking at a potential new job until it occurred to me to ask about dealing with "on-call" support. As I work in tech, there is usually an expectation that some level of support is handled off hours in case systems go down. However this position didn't have any compensation for making yourself available and generally only 15 mins from a phone or computer to support the systems. The best they could offer was "time in-lieu" *if you get called*, which is basically saying they'll let you work your contracted maximum hours despite it being unsociable hours. Fuck that. After seeing elsewhere someone commenting that they would refuse to on-call if there was also a "return to office", because if they had to go to the office to work, then how could they possibly support it from home, it made me wonder what other things should I remember to enquire about when interviewing and asking the hiring company?

I'm replacing the light at my front door, and I dont seem to be able to find what I want. My current light is solar powered, light and motion sensitive so it only comes on at night and dims when there is no movement. However during winter there isn't enough light during the day to charge it so that it lasts longer than a couple of hours. I would like to replace it with a mains powered one, but keeping the only on at night, and dims when there is no movement so that it illuminates the house number. Everything I see appears to only have one or the other (unless they actually have both but the listing details are terrible), does anyone know the terminology I need to use?

We are currently in a silly situation when dealing with refillable products for home, and I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas. If I wanted shower gel (for example), all the refillable locations require a bottle with the capacity printed on it, and for it to be empty. And basically I don't want to wait until my shower gel is out completely before getting any more, so I would want an intermediate container however I cannot find a 1l bottle that has the capacity embossed on it so that I can take it to the refill station, and bring it home. I really don't want to buy *another* small plastic bottle with the capacity on a paper label that does one refill of the gel, and would have to be replaced when the label comes off.

I've picked up an eink Android tablet, which is awesome. However I have plenty of ebooks I've purchased over the years on places such as Humble, and I was wondering whether there was a self hosted solution like Plex/Emby/Jellyfin but designed for ebooks. I've seen Calibre but it doesn't seem to be quite the same thing, and running a sync is a bit clunky for the spouse factor. Is there anything that would index the books, show a bookshelf and allow me to read them, with offline support? Preferably with an Android app for reading with, and the reader handling eink rather than scrolling.

West Berks tops schools suspension and expulsion tables
    web.archive.org

West Berkshire has the highest number of school exclusions in the county. And it has more than twice the number of school suspensions in state-run and special schools under its control. Government data says 1,263 suspensions were issued in West Berkshire in the 22.23 autumn term to 532 pupils. That compares to 569 in Reading, 401 in Slough, 406 in Windsor and Maidenhead and 358 in Wokingham.

Probably just me being a little grumpy after getting a phone call from Southern Water, but it feels a little unreasonable that I only get billed every 6 months (I can't make it more frequent), and they expect a random amount to be settled within the week. I got a bill last week and I'm already recieving phone calls because I'm "late", even though it's only the first, since now it's payday I'll pay it but I'm not happy with the harassment.

We will be visiting Manchester this coming weekend, and was wondering if there any locals here that might be able to suggest anything that might be quirky and fun to go and see? For context, I have 13 and 8 year old daughters to try and keep interested so I want to mix a couple of things to keep them interested in with the things I want to do. I think doing a run around some of the vintage stores and the Pankhurst Centre could be good but does anyone have any other suggestions?
