I thought it was a very interesting idea, I love games that experiment with new things and game mechanics, but it quickly went from being a fun idea to mostly frustrating, especially since you can't change the controls. Using the mouse and stretching the other hands fingers to control arrow keys and then jump with space is not really that different from playing a piano/keyboard piece that your hands are nearly or just a little too small for. I tested this on a trackpad, but I don't see an actual mouse making that big of a difference, while the possibility to change the controls actually might make a big difference.

Is red wine not generally seen as vegetarian? I know about it not being vegan, but is there something else I don't know?

I intentionally left out vegan specifically for the same reason.

I would still be interested, as a lot of foodstuffs are considered vegetarian even if some animal sourced ingredient or agent was used. I'm not a 100% vegetarian in the first place. Mostly, but not a 100%.

I mean, you see a lot of vegetarian food sites etc. still include recipes that use eggs and other ingredients that are animal based or -sourced.

edit: Wow, a surprising amount of wine is not even vegetarian and it isn't just limited to red wine. I mean as a not-100%er it's such a miniscule part of it, but damn, will keep in mind in the future. Spirits and beer it is!

edit2: Goddamnit apparently a lot of beers use the same fining agents used with wine. At least my spirits are fine for the vast majority at least.

  • I've always liked wine, especially red wine and as people who drink wine they enjoy it with food or without. Oftentimes, especially when it comes to red, the pairings often lean towards meat dishes. I don't know if I'm an outlier, but I mostly eat vegetarian food and I still find red wine pairs pretty well, but I'd like to find a magazine or a blog or something, that doesn't just focus on meat dishes. Often the reviews are quite short, describing the taste and then finish with "goes well with hard, strong cheeses and this and this meat and this meat as well". I'm perfectly capable of drawing my own conclusions whether the wine I have pairs well to my taste with whatever I might possibly eat it with, but I like exploring and finding new favorites. So I was wondering if people have any good recommendations for finding new wines that also take into account that not everyone always eats ribs and game and beef and whatnot.

Haha I was afraid this was going to be the answer, 'cause I don't know anyone who watches anime. Ok well I know a few, but they're more like, friends of friends thst I don't really know or keep contact with. The same applies to pretty much anything though. You can't beat actually talking to other people who know who you are and what you like.

I'll have to look for some good vegan chicken seasoning/broth recipes. You have a favorite?

Yeah gotta agree about what's good over meat replicas. I never really got the need for meat replicas (although I do make carrot hotdogs quite a bit, they're just so easy and still fairly unprocessed, just peel, marinate and cook and it's just like a real hotdog), that's why I at least tried to specify that's not what I'm after. Love potatoes and cauliflower in curry, well pretty much in anything.

Thanks for the idli suggestion, haven't heard of that before. Love all the rest though. Have to try a baked potato curry sometime!

I thought about nutritional yeast, but didn't go with it yet, I think I'll try that, gotta try mushrooms too.

Yeah my tofu angle was more like, if anyone's managed to marinade it to taste like chicken. Love tofu though. Paneer was kind of a miss, maybe the brand wasn't great, but I'm gonna stick with tofu, paneer is a lot rarer so I can get better tofu here. We have this paneer-like cheese where I'm from, it's a little fattier maybe and it was great in curry, it just melted a little too much cause I added it too early. It became a little like mozzarella when cooked, just chewier.

I wish I could find jackfruit here without paying myself sick. Always wanted to try it. One of these days I'm gonna treat myself to some.

  • So, I'm obsessed with curry, it's like half of what I eat and I love it, never get tired of it. Used to not eat vegetarian/vegan food at all due to just growing up like that. I still make this one dish, like a way spicier Tikka Masala with chicken and lentils that I really wish I could get somewhere near. I've tried just omitting the chicken and sometimes I make it with just broth/bouillon and it's close enough, but I'd like to make it completely vegetarian. So I'm asking if anyone has any tips or ideas how to do that? Is there any way to get that chicken taste (feel and texture is a plus too, but not mandatory) to a dish? We don't have as wide a variety of veggie-meat things where I'm from (impossi-something etc, I don't know the names). We have things like quorn, but I haven't found a way to quite make that into anything great, but it could be because of the way I'm making it. Maybe some way with tofu? I never really figured how to make something nice with soy pieces (although tips are welcome, it's been a while since I tried). Keep in mind I really don't need, like, physical pieces - the lentils and vegetables are really enough, although it is a plus if there's something like that too. Any tips welcome. Edit: To clarify, I'm not looking for ideas for texture or such *in general* - unless it tastes like chicken or can be made to taste like chicken. I'm well aware of all kinds of veggie/vegan options in general I eat like 95% vegetarian. I don't really need to have something that seems and feels like meat in my food, just meant that if the [whatever] that can get the taste of chicken also feels like chicken it's a plus. Only looking for the "chicken". Thanks anyway and thanks for a few new ideas.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I have my list on MAL, anidb and anilist and the recommendations system seems weird. Is there no way to get recommendations based on what I've seen and how I've rated them? Is there any site for something like that? That's how pretty much any movie/tv list rating site works and I don't get why it would be any different for anime. Every time I try to find something good to watch I end up frustrated, because all the recommendations systems on these sites are just filled with whatever is *"in"* or popular right now. Like I don't care if it's popular, but I don't really care about the popularity I just want something good to watch. How do *you* find new stuff to watch in general? And if you use any list site, what do you use and what for and how?

Just here to remind everyone to report that shit as well!

I always feel guilty after reporting, because it's such a different environment, especially over here at beehaw, but I don't think there's been a single time that I wasn't positively surprised that the "housekeeping" agrees there's no place for shitty behaviour here. Always reaffirms that I definitely joined the right place.

The Wizard of Oz was the first, before I knew there was some sort of a difference between this or that animation.

The first "proper" one was either Spirited Away, Chobits (by recommendation) or Bleach. I adore Miyazaki's work still, Wizard of Oz has a special, nostalgic place in my heart and I want to see it again sometime, Bleach I probably couldn't bother to watch anymore (soooo much filler and pointless fan-service aimed at teenaged boys, I couldn't stand all that stuff even then), Chobits I might give a spin sometime just to see if it's at all not-horrible, but it's been a while so I can't really remember. The whole virgin-boy wants sex angle and fan-service thing never appealed to me and ruins so many animes that would be good or even great otherwise.

Most of the time it's just YouTube and last.fm (I want something similar to something I like or find something new I like - I go through similar artists).

A little less, but still a significant amount - Radio Garden, I have a handful of stations favorited (Shoutout to 'Radio is a foreign country', they're on YouTube and soundcloud as well among others), but sometimes I just "roll the globe" and point and check out what they have on in like, Ghana or something.

Another internet radio thing is SomaFM, though out of their stations I tend to stay on DroneZone the most for some great ambient picks.

In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Willy Wonka has Oompaloompas working as slaves(?) in his factory. I constantly have the Oompaloompa song playing in my head so it's Oompaloompa with more OOMPH! Nothing more, nothing less. Yes, I am a moron and I know it would've been better as Oomphaloompa, but it's too late now. At least there's twice as much oomph now.

I wish I hadn't ruined my first watch of Steins;Gate by starting from one of the last episodes. It got me excited, but there was so much stuff referring to earlier episodes that made me realize I'm not watching the first episode. I'm waiting just a bit longer to restart watching. I did the same with Battlestar Galactica's last season and got all excited like "Holy shit this last season is going to be crazy" before realizing I just completely ruined the whole season for myself.

Seconding Akira and Ghost in the shell, Steins;Gate is great too.

One of the first ones I saw (and I love cyberpunk and scifi shit) was Serial Experiments Lain and it was one of the first ones to get me absolutely hooked. Mind you, it is weird and strange, but if you're into stuff like David Lynch at all you'll love it.

Others to look into that aren't exactly cyberpunk, but futuristic/scifi nonetheless: Neon Genesis Evangelion (finish it, it gets really cool towards the end and I thought all things mecha-anything was just dudes being silly about robots), Cowboy Bebop, Ergo Proxy and Gantz (might seem silly at first, but gets interesting towards the end).

No you stopped at the exact right moment, the entire season is downhill after the first episode/ two episodes. The episodes were entertaining enough to watch if you have nothing better to watch, but it's not very Black Mirror. This episode is fairly generic werewolf trope.

I’m so happy that I used last.fm for over a decade before stopping momentarily, because gems like this would’ve been forgotten to me forever. I spontaneously went through stuff I listened to a decade and over ago and found this amazing song and I was listening to this today and thought I’d share it here now.
