Lemmy's gaining popularity, so I thought new people should see this.

as they are more prone to censorship

    More prone than who? ml?

Pretty sure i have seen you say this explicitly at some point, but i'll just take these easy to find snippets from 6 days ago, where you talk about what you're up to outside of hexbear, although tbf you were talking about slrpnk users here:

I've spoken with a few users, carefully pointing out how by being anti-Marxist but not also being anti-liberal, and further having no links to theory of any sort beyond aesthetic choices, opens them up to opportunism. They seemed to vaguely accept it, hope it can get through to them.

I am trying to convince individual users when the opportunity arises.

You're doing great! Also with your "reasonable nice guy" facade!

Thank you, I guess I had a couple upvotes too but I was ratio'd pretty hard, for a small generally positive low traffic community I had like 20 down votes or something, people really did not like this. So I thought if it's a real serious community about growing vegetables, it's not for me, I don't do that, I just do lighthearted wild flowers and bird stuff.

Awesome that you got these doves around and the owl! I have a kestrel cruising around my yard too. The pigeons make themselves all slim and starved looking when they hear it 😆 It's tough out there for the birds, including the kestrel.

So that should be a "no" really :)

For me it's a no, but looking at my subscribed communities, i don't have all that many ml communities in there tbh.

The ones that i like best and that don't have a better alternative elsewhere are !crows@lemmy.ml and !openstreetmap@lemmy.ml and i guess the ones about lemmy itself and jerboa.

The way they seem to be banning people is worrying to me, the ml users i generally don't have a problem with, but i'm avoiding politics.

That is just the reality on lemmy for people interested in niche topics. If i see a community where different users posts something once a month and there are even replies, that is more appealing to me than scrolling through three pages of content posted by the same person.

If a billionaire buys LW tomorrow

lol that is a new one.

    concerning behaviour from LW mods

Would you look at that, a mod of a big community for heated discussion said or did something that people took offence to. Surely must be the instance's fault, would not happen anywhere else.

!movies@lemm.ee is more active than !movies@lemmy.world in monthly active users.

You are doing a good job there, also with advertising the community, but I'll say again that the world community looks more healthy to me, it's a variety of different users posting there, while the ee one consists half of emperors and your effort to try and force this, actually it is only three topics that have been created by non moderators on the first page.

That is a software problem, I thought you guys were all computer experts.

If world wasn't so big, it would have probably not even been noticed, now it is hopefully getting fixed with the next update, if I understood that right.

Federation works waaay better than when the big reddit influx happened, that was kinda disappointing and I'm glad Lemmy will be prepared better for the next wave.

Lemmy.world has a bunch of memes and political screeching because that's the kind of user its admins choose to encourage.

How are the admins encouraging these users specifically? I have not noticed this, but I have been blocking most politics and meme communities for a while.

Yeah I see that differently. To me these forced posts for the sake of posting something, that are all being created by the same people are not necessarily that appealing to me, they don't give me the impression that there is an actual community interested in the topic, you know? It's kinda obvious that it's really more "pretend active".

While the plantid one, it seems like there is a community there, they just don't post much, because there just aren't that many people on Lemmy that have plantid questions. The community actually has a purpose and direction, it is active if activated and it gives good answers.

Yeah i guess i'm not all that picky, and granted those waxed chains look great. I read that you save hours per month in maintenance, but i don't think i spend an hour a year fiddling with my chain, haha.

It's the older one of the two that grew up on my balcony. I haven't seen the younger one in a long time, this one i had not seen for two weeks (for which one i was on holidays). Fed him some sunflower hearts. He is absolutely not scared of me and also not of my camera. When i tried to pet him, he picked at me and also hit me with a wing some time ago, haha. I don't think he'd do that if he was actually scared. He then was sitting in the corner of the balcony where he [used to sit with his little sister when they couldn't fly](https://lemmy.world/comment/11960484). Mom and pops were just checking out my balcony again to find a place to nest, but i saw them do it yesterday already and upgraded the anti nestabiltity a bit. They left now, i don't think they found anything good today.

    > *Title picture taken on the way from Buis-les-Barronies towards Montbrun-les-Bains. Mont Ventoux seems to be everywhere, then again i cycled around it quite a lot ;)* Originally i wanted to do two weeks in Cyprus, but when i was checking in my bike at the airport, they did not allow me to bring it just bubble wrapped. That was such a bummer, i had done this a few times before without problem. It sucked and i could not reschedule the flight for it to make sense because the flights to Cyprus were so few. So i sat at home depressed for a couple days, then drove my car to Valence, France and rode from there to the Luberon and back. The Drôme provençale and the Mont Ventoux Area are really gorgeus. Luberon i did not enjoy as much, still very nice, i rode the ridge road of the petit Luberon and thought i may have panoramas to both sides, but it was mostly forest, but a cedar forest, not something i have seen before i think. ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.world%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fec37aea7-3153-4565-9c1c-7c1f982e6875.jpeg) > *On the descend from Col de la Chaudière towards Bourdeaux* First time touring without a kickstand, it was less anoying than i thought it would be, i think i'll continue doing that too. Also brought my camera again this time, that's what i had the feedbag for, fits pretty good. But i think i'll skip that again and bring just the phone, although i much prefer taking photos through a viewfinder. In this post i am using only photos taken with my phone, haha. ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.world%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F293d7207-c773-48db-affb-6ccc5b0b837c.jpeg) > *Gorges de la Nesque - had ridden those five years ago already but it's not like it was boring to do again :)* I also got some wider tires, 47mm so my fenders fit no more. Great upgrade in comfort though coming from40 mm. I guess i'll keep fenders off for touring, love the tires (Continental Contact Urban 47-622), and although they are basically slick, it did not feel any less grippy on gravel, did a couple good gravel climbs and downhills. No long time test yet, i got only about 600 km on them. ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.world%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fee7d7094-1c2f-4ba1-8afa-f0563d701492.jpeg) > *Testing my new tires on gravel at Col des Arles* [Klick for route](https://bikerouter.de/#map=9/44.3369/4.9562/standard&lonlats=4.901887,44.934202;5.197477,44.697469;5.201447,44.626781;5.215759,44.516825;5.274081,44.275254;5.292449,44.257129;5.420208,44.167054;5.408707,44.091654;5.23344,44.057878;5.226402,43.976758;5.241401,43.951355;5.199966,43.911499;5.148296,43.805112;5.306911,43.823642;5.363066,43.765361;5.497842,43.784573;5.58025,43.829102;5.581141,43.861301;5.587782,43.933034;5.556614,43.980572;5.563406,43.981213;5.408428,44.09147;5.432568,44.105999;5.453382,44.126678;5.449562,44.141488;5.444412,44.175445;5.44939,44.215017;5.476942,44.231333;5.392978,44.254423;5.27494,44.275165;5.004444,44.696619;4.901828,44.934295&profile=trekking)

I am using a fresh osmand install, and now I have this widget on the right showing the wrong altitude. Always about 50m too high. The bottom widget shows the correct altitude however, that is kinda weird. I have updated the app now, but same thing. Using f-droid latest version, but this happened also with the one I had before (4.85). I am also using brouter plugin for navigation, maybe the correct altitude comes from there idk. The wrong one is also displayed when in the default profile with no brouter involved. Anybody else seeing this phenomenon? Oh and the "centre map" altitude doesn't seem to be working at all, but I don't need that anyway.

The link to https://browse.feddit.de/ is dead and should be updated to https://lemmyverse.net/communities. Personally i think it would even make sense to link this from the main site sidebar. Not because it is a problem finding communities on other instances from within world, at least this should be the best instance to be able to, but as a function of being a "role model" for other instances.

    > *Papa and the kids, four days ago, the first day they left the balcony* I thought they'd be gone by last weekend, but flight school apparently takes some time. Was awesome seeing their first excursions off of the balcony and onto the roof gutter. I was so happy to be there for it. And i have a video of them returning from their first little flight, haha. The older one seems now to go flying with papa, the smaller one - i think - with mama, at least they showed up together yesterday. The younger one still sleeps on my balcony. It has been alone there for the last two nights, first evening alone it seemed a bit worried. Maybe today it will find somewhere else to sleep, i think it may be two days younger than the other one. This weekend i'll clean up the mess and barricade their nest spot so they don't keep breeding here. It was nice to have them but i kinda want the balcony back for myself, i was minimizing my balcony time so they could do their pigeon stuff in peace. Really caring parents, very nice to see.

and their little stinkybums. ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.world%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F379e2388-83cc-4c50-9b97-791849f7c0f1.jpeg) Today one of the lil' stinkybums flew onto a flower pot. They'll be flying out into the dangerous world in a few days. Yesterday evening, opposite side of the garden, a kestrel caught a bird. Don't know what bird it was who had a nest under the roof gutter, the swifts are already on their way to Africa.
