I was today years old when I learned that you can run a custom WM on a Mac.

That's like....the equivalent of a coca cola soda machine dispensing Pepsi.

And in terms of down votes, I don't really care too much. It evens out overtime.

I'm so fucking tired of hearing about a living wage.

I want a thriving wage! If that means that janitors and whoever the fuck conservatives want to shit on make $40-50 dollars and hour, so be it.

Wages have been so stagnant that I want a labor market and not a job market.

Switching licenses to future versions doesn't invalidate previous versions released under GPL.

I'm not a lawyer but I deal with OSS licenses for work and I don't know if there's ever been a case like this, that I can think of anyway.

Their previous versions, still being under the GPL, would require them to release a change to make it usable on desktops. Again, I'm not a lawyer here but there is a lot of case law behind the GPL and I think the user who made the issue could take them to court to force them to make the change if they don't respond in 30 days.

As much as I want to use F-Droid, my work blocks all third party app stores so it's either have access to my work stuff on one phone (via profiles) or dual wield two phones.

I lack the patience to dual wield again. It's very annoying.

Iirc, once reported, the project has 30 days to remedy or they are in violation of the license. They can't even release a new version with a different license since this version is out under the GPL.

These are all good points but the biggest reason I HATE gift cards is because they offer ZERO protection.

Buy something with a credit card and you often get double warranty protection included. That something gets damaged or stolen? Also protected.

Gift cards offer none of that. Neither does cash but at least I can use cash to pay off the credit card.

I get that a gift card is more personable and it earmarks the funds for a particular store. If you like gift cards, then cheers and go about your merry way.

I've emphatically told my loved ones that I never want a gift card. You want me to use the money somewhere specific? Just say so and I'll do it.

But don't give me a script that I can only use in one place and might lose.

I don't care if it's ugly so long as it's functional. I don't want a situation where they spent millions on a new truck that the post office has to use because it's built in 30 different congressional districts and the lobbyists are all shoving money down the throats of incumbents to keep it operational.

    Former Christian here.

This is it. Criminals have (theoretically) been proven guilty. Some crimes are worthy of death.

A fetus (ahem unborn baby) has cast no sin and does not deserve death.

Christians would also say that they would never get out to death because they would never do anything wrong but when you bring up the fact that Jesus himself said you should be willing to suffer even to the point of suffering on a cross, they start changing the subject.

I hate to say it but everything is fucking political now. Yes it sucks that it's tied to your identity but identity politics scores super easy points with conservatives because it's so much easier to point out vs the massive wealth disparities between people like Musk and you and me.

Oh no question. But even moron votes count (at least statistically speaking).

So at this point, I fully expect Harris to run a much tighter ship than she has been and Trump to increase his very violent rhetoric.

We're just a few weeks away from the election. The candidates have two different but important roles.

    • Presidential candidate: keep the base in line while not alienating swing voters
    • VP candidate: say things that the presidential candidate can't say

As much as you may want Harris to say something like "We will defend the trans community," it's going to alienate swing voters.

It makes no earthly sense the election is this close but it is. Kamala can't afford a misstep but Tim can.

Overturn RvW. He campaigned on this promise and he got it.

I'm not saying it as a gotcha but there are very much things he promised and he delivered on, many of which were done via very illegal and unconstitutional executive orders.

    Other "accomplishments":

(Quick side note: I'm only counting policy based accomplishments. Things like hating on gays or hurting immigrants, while technically promises, I'm going to categorize as "legalized oppression".)

    • deregulation of the Internet (Fuck Ajit Pai)
    • "building" the "wall" and having Mexico "pay" for it, done primarily via tariffs that ended up hurting Americans more but his base didn't care (this one is a stretch but I'm counting it)
    • simplified parts of the tax code that gave everyone a tax cut (ignoring the part that for lower and middle class this cut was often a few dollars while for the Uber rich it was thousands)

There are more but I need to get back to my date. 😅

It'd be like Triumph the insult dog. They could have segregated the exhibit so that if you're a pearl clutching parent you can avoid it but this could have been a great way to raise money.

  • I've been searching around for a copy of the Resolute Letter that Trump left for Biden. The letters are typically released within a few days of entering office but this was never done because [Biden wanted to talk to Trump first before doing so.](https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/20/politics/trump-letter-to-biden/index.html) It's been almost four years. Surely it's been done by now and I can't seem to find any article with the letter or anything on the official White House website. I'm tempted to submit a FOIA request for it but wasn't sure where to start.

fmovies has been gone almost a month. I should have added "FBI" up there but really they used FBI to shoot down the service, not be like them. I don't understand when these companies are going to learn that sharing their IP is going to get them more money than being so fractured. I started using sudo-lol and seems *okay*. Streaming can be hinky at times but it works for most of the things I want to watch. I know that torrenting can be a thing but sometimes I just want to watch and not deal with a whole finding a torrent, download, and then watch workflow.

I know it occasionally has service disruptions, but it usually comes back up after a day or so. Fmovies has been down for almost the entire week for me. Anyone else having issues?

Good day self-hosters! I'm not exactly sure what to call what I'm looking for besides a "clipboard". Let me describe my problem and what my ideal solution is. At work, I get a lot of slack DMs that ask for the same information. It's not consistent to the point I would just pin the information in my Windows 11 clipboard. But it's often enough that I'd prefer to give people the same information each time it's asked. I'm limited in what I can build on my work computer. In an ideal world, [I'd do what Gilfoyle did and make and bot](https://piped.video/watch?v=Y1gFSENorEY) but I lack the time and skills for such a task. Right now, I solve this with a very long notepad, which is subject to copy/paste errors. If I don't highlight everything correctly or if I accidentally copy over an existing line. That kind of thing. What I was thinking was a very simple website where the items I'm copying are in tiles that can be tagged and searched. Once I find what I'm looking for, I can click the button to copy it to my clipboard and then go on with my life. Due to restrictions on my work computer, I cannot host containers or host a website, though a fully self-contained HTML page with javascript I could do.. Ideally this is something that can be build using Github Pages build with Jekyll but so far, I haven't found a theme that mimics the behavior I'm looking for and I lack the time (though not the skills) to build it. I'd prefer the github route so that I can share the page with others on my team who get asked similar questions. I am also able to deploy a website via Github Pages (with `.nojekyll`). I have to think something similar to this already exists but I imagine the restrictions on having no backend might be the challenge. Love to hear your thoughts! Edit: added context for Gilfoyle Thank you all for the great suggestions. I should have added in this post that my work does not allow software with Copyleft (Don't get me started. I'm a strong copyleft advocate and it annoys me that my company only takes and never gives back to OSS). I'm going to give TiddlyWiki out. License is friendly with my work, seems simple enough to run. That said, Logseq seems to be pretty interesting as well. Might try this out on my on machine to see if I like it.
