From a lot of what I've seen, strong literalism and very little intuition is a pretty common trait with autism. You have a picture with a bunch of people at the beach, we'll, you have a bunch of people at the beach. The lifeguard isn't on vacation, some people could be there on a day trip, so why would you say vacation. Take the same picture, add a sign that says "Beachside Resort" and you might be more likely to say vacation.

I think this ties into how people with autism respond to open-ended and closed questions. What's 2+2? Well, 4, obviously. What's your favorite color? Shouldn't be too hard. What's the best color? Now it gets confusing. If I'm hunting, neon orange is great. If I'm painting the outside of my house, probably not neon orange. I probably want a different color than either of those for my bedroom, my clothes, my car. And now you've been staring at the evaluator for 30 seconds like they just asked you the meaning of life and how that is going to direct your goals for the next 20 years, when what a more neurotypical person would say is, "Blue, because it brings out my eyes."

So if you look at those questions in that context, they may be very helpful for the evaluator to make a diagnosis, simply because there is no obvious answer.

I don't even like sweet potatoes but like that there's enough salty/sharp stuff

I like sweet potatoes, but I get you. I don't understand this thing where people add marshmallows. It's already sweet! Now, bake a sweet potato, mash it, and add a little bit of salt and some hot sauce to preference, that definitely works for me.

The punishment was easy, so the intent wasn't as great. You know, the difference between a bullet to the head and repeated bashing with a rock. I'm sure in all these instances, the lack of effort was a relief to the target of the action.

Who would be the bad faith actor here? Wiwynn? If they don't have an order, that's going to fall flat pretty fast. Seems like a pretty risky bet at $60 million. Twitter? Then it isn't Wiwynn's problem, Twitter can take care of their bill, and deal with their internal issues.

I want something like this where I live. We have FPTP here, but we have a viable third option in some areas. I'd be happier to to have more than 2 robust parties on the national stage.

I will never stop calling any scene where an object is moving towards people and they run directly away from it while it's gaining on them as "the Prometheus school of running away." This was only slightly less stupid than trying to outrun a train...on the tracks.

  • Basically what the title says. Sometimes something is removed, rightly or wrongly, but its removal diminishes the comments below it. The capability is already in Lemmy and it would be nice to see if one chooses to, but I can accept that the feature could promote toxic behavior.

I agree. It would be like a composer who couldn't play an instrument writing a symphony. Just because he doesn't have the capability to produce the final outcome doesn't mean his vision for how the various pieces fit together isn't an artistry in itself.

That is a very powerful image, moreso than many of the other images I've seen of that event. It certainly isn't because of the people in it, but the timing to capture that gesture and the overall framing add something that is lacking in other pictures I've seen. No doubt that is the reason they selected it. Now they will have to use a lesser option.

Read a little deeper. Ever hear of Swanson dinners? Guess who his adopted mother is. His dad is the one who married into inexhaustible wealth, and he's been financially secure for most of his life, if not all of it. There are few people in America who could be less John Q Everyman.

This is the single biggest reason I don't want my own instance. It would either be an instance of one or it would be a giant hot mess (or both). I don't have the time or energy to moderate a bunch of other people. It's enough trouble moderating myself.

Wikipedia shows him as dual citizenship, born to an American mother (father may have been American, but only one parent is needed), and renounced his Canadian citizenship 10 years or so ago. Samantha Bee did a piece on him, showing some bad acting in high school, although it could have just been high school quality acting. I believe he was living in Toronto at the time.

This was kind of my opinion. I don't pretend to know a lot about stocks, but when I look at a 1Y view and see the stock had doubled, and like you said a 50% increase in the last month, this looks less dramatic. I don't doubt it has something to do with a negative reaction to his latest rally, but I'd wait at least a day or two before I assumed this was a major setback for his stocks. Obviously, I'm not day trader material.

On the face of it, your point is valid, just like on the face of it landing rockets is too complicated. Both are likely solved the same way - active management by responsive computers to negate environmental effects to behave in a stable manner in an unstable environment. This idea certainly wouldn't have worked 100 or even 50 years ago, but may be quite possible now.
