Fresh install of Windows 10, fresh install of Firefox, fresh install of Dropbox.

I was trying to log into Dropbox to authenticate the app, but every time I got to the part where I had to enter my 2fa it would say it was expired. I grew concerned that I was hacked and it was changed, but trying it on my old computer it worked fine.

Then I said fine, I had accidentally paired my Dropbox account with my Google account years ago, so I guess I'll use that. So I logged into Google, and then clicked sign in with my Google account, and I got stuck in a loop where the page was refreshing everything few seconds.

The page would load, it would say "signing you in with your Google account", then it would say at the top in red letters something like "sorry, you haven't signed in recently enough to do that, please log in", and the entire page would refresh and start the loop over, "signing you in with your Google account" etc etc. I left it go through several cycles, it was never gonna work.

It was about then that I guessed that Firefox might be the problem, and it was 🤷‍♂️

The only non standard thing about my config, is that Windows is inside of a VM. That could very well be it too? But edge was also in that same VM, and it worked. I only used edge because I'm trying to keep the VM light, so I didn't install chrome for a one off thing.

I don't know why I got down voted in my earlier comment, I'm not pooping on Firefox. I honestly want it to work, and am still going to use it. But the facts are facts, I literally just ran into this issue yesterday 🤷‍♂️

I recently switched back to Firefox, and almost immediately ran into an issue where I couldn't log into Dropbox. It took me far longer than I'd like to admit, to realize that Firefox as the problem. I popped into edge and logged in immediately no problem.

I'm still gonna will with Firefox, but it's annoying that it doesn't work all the time.

Amps and watts are related, but you need voltage to complete the equation.

Wattage, which is total power delivered, is derived by multiplying volts times amps.

So the steam deck can charge using 40 watts. A quick Google says that it's max charging voltage is 15 volts, and its max charging amperage is 2.6 amps.

    15 times 2.6? 39. That's basically 40 watts.

Now, the Deck can also use 12v, 9v, and even 5v in a pinch. But that's only 31, 23, and 13 watts respectively. So you're likely not going to be able to charge and play at the same time unless your charger is capable of 15 volts at 2.6 amps.

Now for 240w, if you wanted to do that at 15 volts, you'd need 16 amps! 15 volts times 16 amps is 240 watts. At 12, 9, and 5 volts you'd need 20, 27, and 48 amps respectively. You'd need a pair of cables bigger than your thumb to carry that many amps without overheating.

That's why in the USB C PD spec, 240w is only possible if your device can accept 48 volts.

    48 volts times 5 amps is 240w.

In fact the max amperage is 5 amps, and that requires a special cable with a special chip to prove it won't melt. So at lower voltages, 36 and 28, the max wattage is 180 and 140 respectively.

That's the beauty of electricity, and the relationship between voltage and amperage. The more power(watts) you want to deliver, the more amps you need. But, if you can increase the voltage, you can deliver the same power for less amperage.

That's why overhead power lines are high voltage, 12,000 volts for residential lines in the USA.

A standard home has 240 volt service, split into two 120 volt "phases". The maximum amperage at the main breaker is usually 100 or 200 amps.

240 volts times 200 amps is 48,000 watts!

Now, once that gets on the overhead lines it's much less.

48,000 watts divided by 12,000 volts? 4 amps. You could carry the entire full load of a household: washer, dryer, stove, water heater, etc. Max out the panel with current draw, and you could carry all of that over a single USB C cable at 4 amps, if you could get the voltage up to 12,000 volts.

You can't of course, because electricity gets really jumpy at those voltages, so you'd need two USB C cables and you'd have to hold them several feet away from each other and the ground or anything else conductive. But still, you could do it, and that's amazing!

Sorry for the big write up. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. There are pamphlets at the doors.

Bluetooth has a general lag of several milliseconds, tens of milliseconds probably, for me. But it's close enough to not bug me when watching videos. And I never have cutouts, not unless I walk very far away. Just tonight at work I was using my pixel buds, left my phone on the desk, walked to the bathroom probably 40 or 50 feet away and through at least 3 walls, didn't miss a beat 🤷‍♂️

My old BT headphones back in the day couldn't go 20 feet across the room line of sight.

BT has definitely gotten way better in recent years.

Yeah I've seen the movie and the final pane of this comic got me as well. I think it's because the bricks he's running on at the end are the same as the well, and the boulder is too smooth and looks like an opening to the well, like the cat is matrix running down the wall of the well 🤷‍♂️

Very confusing perspective, even if only for a moment.

You're welcome! Yeah all buds used to be that way, now they're considered "cheap" and the in-ear kind are the new hotness. Better bass response and noise isolation. But the one school style is coming back, and those buds I linked are considered premium by some people 🤷‍♂️

    Sure!

These are what I call ear canal buds.

These are what I just bought, and really enjoy, because they sit in your outer ear without plugging the canal, so outside sounds can easily enter.

On the SD I used to just use the built in speakers all the time. Literally years, I have a launch console.

But just two weeks ago I discovered they still make earbuds that sit in your ear instead of in your ear canal. Like, quality ones. And now that's all I use.

They're perfect because they sound great, but still let outside noise in, so if my wife starts talking to me I don't just ignore her. But they're also small and fit in the case, good for travel.

My wife has an iPhone, I have Android. I've easily bought her twice as many lightning cable replacements over the years, compared to USB C ones.

Micro USB is another story, that port never should've existed

Used to be the socket with micro USB, but USB c is much more resilient. And any damage usually occurs on the cable end and not the socket. So worst case just replace the cable

You're welcome! Well it's more complicated than that, and I'll be honest I don't THOROUGHLY understand everything about it.

But the idea is to move the liquid from one canister to the other, that's why the "giving" canister is upside down. But because you're moving the liquid itself, you can accidentally fill the entire canister with liquid, no room for the vapor to expand into when it gets warm, and boom! So be careful. As long as you weigh it you'll be safe 👍 You freeze the receiving can because cold gas has a lower vapor pressure. And you can put the giving can in a bowl of warm (not hot!) water to increase it's pressure and make the transfer happen faster. You'll feel the giving can get cold as you fill the bottom can.

Fun fact, this is how air conditioners work! Take any gas (preferably not flammable, but that exists too), decompress it in a pipe so it boils into a vapor and absorbs a bunch of heat, making the pipe cold and you can blow air over it to cool your house or fridge.

Then that boiled gas vapor goes into a compressor that increases the pressure in a second pipe, enough that the gas has no choice but to condense into a liquid again. This releases all the heat that was captured in the boiling phase. Now you've got a hot pipe, and you put it outside and blow air over it to cool it off, further liquifying it. Then you take the liquid and release it back into the low pressure boiling pipe inside and start the process all over again!

A special adapter from Amazon, like $20.

Be sure to refill by weight. Buy a full screw top canister and weigh it with a kitchen scale, note the weight in grams, write it on the can and in your phone.

Then later, when it's empty, put it in the freezer for several minutes, pull it out and refill it with the other canister, but only fill it to the weight it was originally at. It will gladly take more gas, but there will be less headroom or no headroom, and the canister has a high chance of exploding.

The Internet will tell you not to do it, and how unsafe it is, how the valves aren't meant for that many uses, and it's definitely gonna explode etc etc. But if you do it smart, you're fine. And don't reuse the same screw canister many many times, you're already saving money, reuse it a few times then recycle it and start over.

Edit: this is the one I bought, it'll do the trick. https://a.co/d/eHJDQGL

Also NEVER EVER EVER refill them with any amount of propane! Yes the normal canisters come with a percent of propane in them to help in cold weather. But getting the partial pressure mixture right is almost impossible at home, and propane will definitely make your canister explode. It's vapor pressure is too high. That's why the pure butane canisters are so thin, and the green pure propane canisters are so thick and heavy, because they need to be to hold back the pressure.

I meant on purpose as in to remove gyro aim for some reason. Though I don't think so, apparently forbidden west has native gyro support.

It's ok if my old profile is invalid, but why is it now not possible to set up gyro again?

It looks like hers got nuked too, it's on the "official" input scheme, and there's no sign of my previous setup, and gyro is off.

I'm hoping this wasn't a intentional change made by the have developer, that would make me pretty salty

    1
  • I'm trying to configure the gyro to help me aim. I've tried every configuration I can think of, or find online. I'm slamming head into a wall. From what I can tell, the game now only accepts "steam controller" input. Which means the right joystick isn't actually a joystick, it's a weird virtual joystick, and there's some conversion going on. So when the old methods for getting gyro input are used, ie "as joystick" or "as mouse", the input is completely ignored by the game. I've tried configuring a fresh controller configuration based on a standard controller, but then the game things I'm trying to use a keyboard and mouse and ignores all controller input. Now, if I set gyro to "right stick (steam controller logo)", then suddenly the gyro starts affecting the right stick. But instead of being a relative input, as in when I pull the left trigger to aim, use the current gyro position as zero, and all relative movement should be applied to the stick. Instead it is an absolute value, with the movement being relative to the calibrated location of gravity down. So when I pull the left trigger, I immediately stare into the sky. I think the solution to this is the "auto world tilt" option, but that is only available in the "gyro to joystick" configuration, which of course doesn't work. Am I missing something completely obvious here? Can someone please guide me in the right direction? I miss gyro aim. Thanks

Hi there, I've been wanting a framework for awhile now, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I was perusing the website today, comparing the price and performance of different configurations, when I realized that the 16 needs a 100w power adapter, 180w if you've got the graphics card. This is a dumb question, because obviously it would charge fine with the lid closed and idling or turned off. Or I could just upgrade my power adapters. But I have a lot of 65w USB C PD chargers in my house and cars, and I was wondering if anyone has tried using them, and if so how effective is it? Like, 180w is a lot of power. If I'm just working on spreadsheets or something, I'm imagining it would charge just fine? Under a heavier load I would probably start to slip backwards? Where's the line? Movie watching? Light gaming? Just food for discussion I guess, I still haven't pulled the trigger haha. Thanks!

I'm new to backpacking, did my first trip this year with a hammock and had a great time. Trying to get my wife into it with me. We're planning on going to Iceland in September, no trees. Plus she sleeps cold so she'll probably be more comfortable if we're in the same tent. I'm looking to spend as little as possible, we're really not sure this will be our thing going forward, it might just be something I do solo. And we already have a big six person tent for glamping with a big air mattress. I'm hoping for under $200, less if possible. But I also don't wanna buy garbage, or carry something excessively heavy. Suggestions? Edit: this seems popular and well liked? https://www.rei.com/product/185632/rei-co-op-half-dome-sl-2-tent-with-footprint
